Hey, Non Biz Opportunity Looker, My MLM Opportunity Is Great

I was reading through some stuff on Digg this morning and came across an article that was highlighting the 9 most poorly conceived marketing campaigns (Just type 9 marketing campaigns in Digg and you should find it). Anyway, I was reading about how these companies were putting together campaigns based on what THEY thought was going to work instead of letting their customers tell them. Hence, the title to this article How many times have you seen people pitching their MLM opportunity to the wrong market?

In light of that, I am going to go over the top 3 things that you must do before wasting time and resources on a marketing campaign that is directed in the wrong direction.

You must have a clear understanding of your market. If you don’t know your market demographics you will most likely end up spinning your wheels and never get any where. Do not try to sell Barbie’s to 50 year old males. Get the Point? Being in the right ballpark is a huge part of marketing.

Next, find out where your target market frequents. A lot of times, you can find places that your targets frequent that are not as highly competitive as some of the obvious places they traffic. A great example for MLM is that everyone knows that Better Networker is focused on MLM. On the other hand, there are tons of other forums that the same people on BN will visit for other reasons or to get other answers.

Last, now that we now what our key demographic is and where they frequent, we have to say the right thing to get them to take action. Copywriting is a key area where I am lacking skills and my conversions suffer for it. Fortunately for me, I am able to solicit some help from some great copywriters including a friend, Chris Owen. I am eagerly awaiting his “Sticky Clickable” training so I can get a better understanding on the mechanics of the copywriting process. However, if you are not in the position to outsource some of this work, market (product and demographic) related forums are an awesome place to do research. You can frequent related forums and see what kind of questions (pains) your market is asking. A couple of weeks of research and documentation can give you a much better understanding of the pains and pleasures of your market. Once you know what there pain points are, base your copywriting around them and you will see success as you will be speaking directly their biggest issues.

I don’t claim to be an outstanding marketer, but I know that by doing the things discussed above, I can tip the scales in my favor. Marketing is a very fluid process as the customer base advances and becomes more educated. If you can talk to the right people, in the right places, and say the right things, you will see a lot more success pitching an MLM opportunity or any other product you market.
