Killer Elevator Speech, Exposed
Networking Marketing is all about connecting with folks and building relationships. If you’re implementing offline or online marketing strategies it is crucial to communicate the why, the what and the how of your business concisely and clearly in order to create a positive connection. The best way to achieve this is with a well crafted Elevator Speech. I recently watched an outstanding video from Terri Murphy on the Keys To forming a Potent and Effective Elevator Speech.
What is an Elevator Speech? An Elevator Speech is your 7 – 30 second response to the question, so what do you do? Shorter is better as it is easier to remember and in our Attention Deficit Disorder, ADD Society that works best. Every word counts and how you craft the message is critical.
Most people fumble and stumble their way through a response missing that golden opportunity to make a great first impression, connect with the lead or prospect and keep the conversation going.
They also tend to focus inwardly at what’s in it for them and how their specific business can gain versus looking for what they can do to help their customer’s quality-of-life, business and their bottom line. That level of caring is what separates you from all the rest and keeps the conversation go and creates a mutually beneficial business relationship.
The six secrets to an effective and dominant elevator speech.
1. Make a list of all the services you provide your customers write down how each service saves your customer money productivity and time.
2. Ask your customers and jot down why they do business with you and your company. Compile a list of all the reasons that continue to make your customers want to do business with you and be a raving fan.
3. Formulate your elevator speech in a manner that promotes the conversation continuing. An example of this would be, “I help businesses go from good to great, by improving employee morale and positively impacting an organization’s bottom line.”
4. Break the statement into 2 parts. a) What you do b) How it helps your customer. For example, “I help families save money so that they can send their kids to college and retire prosperously.”
5. Write out your Elevator Speech. It must be easily understood and become a part of you. It should spontaneously roll of your tongue, clearly and concisely.
6. Practice, practice, practice. Your next step in advancing the relationship is to ask your lead or prospect what they do. Get as much information on their business, their needs and wants to determine whether they are a good fit for your product or service.
To separate yourself from the crowd, ask the following question, “Mr or Mrs. Prospect, it has been nice talking with you. I would like to see if anyone in my database is the right fit for you; how can I best refer you?”
It is crucial that you follow up on anything that you commit to doing. It is also a good idea to send a personal note that highlights any items discussed at your meeting. This usually will help jog their memory and further develop your connection and connection.
You can use your Elevator Speech-Tag-Line on all your stationary, e-mail signature, auto-responder, articles, videos, power-points, brochures, voice-mails and any other form of communication.
Spend your creativity time crafting a winning elevator speech and you’ll ride it to the top.
