3. You must follow company policy and protocol. It may not in any way link to your part in the job, but it is policy that you must do things on someone else’s schedule and in someone else’s way.
4. You are confined inside the walls of the cold, industrial environment known as the cubicle. It is a maze of the same windowless blocks of space for as far as the eye can see.
5. Job security is a thing of days gone by. Your aren’t a valued member of the company, because everyone is disposable in this trying age of layoffs, downsizing and company closures.
6. Gone are the days of bonuses and pay increases for the hard-working, committed employee. Even if you were to do something fabulous to increase profits for your company, you will most likely never see the fruits of your labor.
7. When you are on the clock, you belong to someone else. They own you There is always someone that knows what you are doing and if it isn’t in the best interest of the company, you could lose your job over it.
8. Your creativity is limited. The new layout you painstakingly designed is rejected because it’s “too different from how we’ve always done it”.
9. A personal life is unheard of when it conflicts with the hours of your 9 to 5 grind. You cannot skip the after hours, mandatory meeting just to have dinner with your family, even if it was just announced 5 minutes earlier.
10. There is no variance to your job. You do the same thing today that you did yesterday, last week and will be doing a month from now. Groundhog day anyone?
